Mohammad Raafi Hossain is an aspiring polymath with a diverse track record of formulating and executing strategies for governments, multilaterals and corporates. He has delivered projects, end-to-end, across various sectors, including: emerging technologies, economic development, climate change, renewable energy, healthcare, agriculture and education.
He was previously an Advisor to the UAE Prime Minister's Office. As an Advisor, he has seeded and facilitated several innovative initiatives that strengthen the connection between governments and the adoption of emerging technologies across several sectors. He is also the founder of Finocracy, a boutique think-and-do tank that develops platforms that democratize access to opportunities for the next billion. Finocracy has partnered with a range of corporates, governments and multilaterals, including the United Nations, the Global Fund, the Islamic Development Bank among others.
Previously, he has worked for the United Nations across several contexts in the MENA region, primarily focusing on agriculture, climate change and sustainable development. He has also led development of the award-winning Narwi platform that connected ethical microfinance institutions, rising entrepreneurs and crowdfunded capital. Narwi created 5,000 new businesses and 15,000 jobs across 6 MENA countries through support from a global community of over 100,000 individuals.
Mohammad Raafi has an academic background in Environmental Economics and Sustainable Development from the University of California - Berkeley and Harvard University.
